20100307 10:37MARCUS's CATALOG OF DISKS AND FILES back in 2009 This is a resurrected diskette catalog which can be used with the .tar (.imd imagedisk in future) and unpacked directories to locate the Cromemco files of your choice Since diskettes and MFM hard disks can only last so long the general idea is to move all the contents of these diskettes onto PC Hard disk storage for longterm retention. All non personal files are then copied to our website The code is painstakingly transferred using the PCOM program over a serial RS232 link at 9600 baud PCOM download rate 134 blocks download per minute on a DPU 8MHz 68000 system Download rate using pckt.bin on a 68020 250 , 16MHz 68020 system is about double that PCOM uploads fail/are not reliable unless the target Cromemco is very fast, it does not work on my XPU system only on the XXU system even if the target is a ramdisk. To transfer files to a Cromemco then best to use cscopy on cromemco to read a 360K IBM formatted diskette Some URLS http://maben.homeip.net/static/S100/cromemco/code/disks/index.html ; where all the Cromemco disk images are http://maben.homeip.net/static/S100/cromemco/code/disks/catalog.txt ; this file http://maben.homeip.net/static/S100/cromemco/code/disks/*.tar ; files in unix FTAR -cuv format http://maben.homeip.net/static/S100/cromemco/code/disks/*.ta ; files in cromix FTAR -cv format http://maben.homeip.net/static/S100/cromemco/code/disks/ ; Unpacked files correspond to .tar Diskette images containing /dev entries are imaged twice since ftar -cuv in UNIX format does not save device files. So in that case you need the .da file. Such disks are operating system disks or OS install disks containing device entries. Logins Normally you should be able to login to Cromix automatically. If you get a user prompt try user=system pw=secret ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Filename Extensions .tar UNIX tar format. So need to fix and start again :-( 20071030 trying to restore 31.05 onto D08 - a total failure and a good way to crucify my YE data drives since oxide shedding from diskettes takes seconds and takes hours to clean back the drive heads 20071104 plodding along with 31.05 taking ages 20071105 recreated 11.27 boot disk again trying to image it 20071107 Disk D13 has fallen into my hands 20071108 Regenerating 5.25" diskettes with fresh media 20071109 tared the CPM Users library 20071109 System sys01 is back up! Going to make it a Z80 only bank switching Cromix System leaving sys00 for 68000 activities. By replicating the hardware hope to be able to boot the Z80 cromix that currently will not start with error message "unable to open console" 20071110 Z80 Cromix 11.27 is now UP on sys01, reborn with 512KB of Bank Switching Memory 20071112 trying to get Z80 cromix 11.24 running 20071115 Getting 20.63 up and running 20071119 168 has arrived thanks to Mike Stein 20071122 168allfiles.tar created for push to website 20071123 creation of .ta files for Cromix 168 20071124 Creation of 168xxu code 20071125 Creation of 30.79 internet images 20071126 All lines with dates are now not only imaged but recreated on fresh 2007 media. Before writing a diskette I would recommend a initflop -v fdc, makfs fdc, readall fdc. Use readall to finally check that the media is good. 20071127 Added 30.79 tar file and internet unpacked image and also 168 xxu cromix on Website 20071128 Investigation of D00 and 172XXU Cromix begins, D00 extracted to tape and 5.25 boot floppy made 20071201 Start recopying private QMC and CEGB reports 20071217 Back from England with a huge new collection of software (last time) 20071220 Another 60MB disk has arrived !! 20071222 2 more MFM disks have arrived. This is getting out of hand! 20080501 After a long absence due to over socialisation back to tech. 2 more hard disks arrived. recreated 077 and 078 in preparatio for some xfs work 20080503 Labouriously using the tar command to batch up the D09 UNIX partition and send it to my staging PC, then untar at PC and transfer to website. 20080505 Unfortunately disk D09 which has several partitions contained only the working UNIX. There was no Cromix at all and the 2 large end partitions are blank 20080520 Flu enables me to stay at home, not earn any money, but due some more transferring. PCIX is at last imaged as well as numerous DOS programs all starting from diskette 1000 20080523 Programs 1 imaged, some rayben backup disks being imaged 20080523 Set 2 IBM PCIX created int EMT image format 20080524 Imaging Rayben backup diskettes, old but possibly useful 20080525 Imaging IBM Diagnostics Diskettes 20080525 Nexel Nexos 2200 diskettes 20080528 Wordplex Diskette images 20080528 Tried to image Cromemco diskettes using image disk and it failed miserably 20080626 Another MFM hard disk has arrived 20080802 More MFM arrivals 20080809 Time at last to investigate Cscopy 20090203 Okay more work. Sorry I have been busy previously, now I am ill at home! 20090203 testing D24 with a view to a HD to HD copy which has always failed before 20090209 managed to get Dave Dunfield image disk working for 5.25 inch cromemco disks but its difficult a) format 360K disk on a specific A: cromemco drive rotating at 310 rpm b) recopy the files onto this newly formatted diskette c) make an image of the diskette using IMD.COM interleave 1:1, tracks 40, DS, single step d) On target IBM XT286, specify diskette interleave 1:1 e) try making an image. If address mark not found , error try again (a) f) else should make image. Once image made create back another diskette g) take diskette back to cromemco and if a CDOS disk boot it or DIR it. For cromix boot cromix 168 and check command it. COrrection the above does not work reliably! further investigation required 20090211 Going thru collection and detecting diskettes not yet imaged and correcting it 20090215 continuing collection imaging, sill without imagedisk or teledisk since it does not actually work despite what is said above. 20090216 Cromix 172 XXU is imaged 20090401 Integrating Malcolm McLeans software images 20090406 Converting Malcolm's basic, Cromemco C, Cromemco Z80 Cobol, Cromemco CPM arrives 20090414 Starting to try and read Malcolm's 8 inch diskette collection 20090501 Comments now placed only in website changelog. In other words Small by default is 5.25 inch diskette and Large is an 8" diskette However we've found a way to place the 8 inch format on a physical 3.5 inch diskette, in that case label is prefaced with a 3 Disk type&size, number sides, density and tracking.
